Grown Texas Tough

Spring always sneaks up on me with equal parts excitement and urgency. While the world outside still feels a little unpredictable with our unpredictable Texas weather, my indoor grow room is already looking alive. Trays are filling, lights are glowing, and tiny seedlings are stretching upward, each one with a promise of what’s to come.

Right now, seeds are germinating indoors where conditions are just right. Steady warmth, consistent moisture, and grow lights. This early start gives them the best possible foundation. But they don’t stay coddled for long. As soon as they’re ready, they move out to the greenhouse, where the real preparation begins.

The greenhouse is where strong plants are made. Here, seedlings learn what it means to be Texan. They feel the sun, real sun. They sway in the wind, experience cool nights and warm days, and slowly toughen up against heat, cold snaps, and changing conditions. This early exposure builds resilient root systems and sturdy stems, so when they finally head into Texas landscapes, they’re ready to thrive, not just survive.

This process is one of my favorite parts of growing. It’s hands on, hopeful, and deeply satisfying. Every tray represents future pollinator gardens, native landscapes, and little pockets of life planted back into our environment.

I’m beyond excited to bring these plants to Texas yards, gardens, and open spaces this spring. Grown with intention, patience, and a whole lot of love, these seedlings are more than plants. They’re the beginning of something beautiful.
